Brown Like Me (7 mins) Brought up in Yorkshire, an Asian girl is confronted with a dilemna that challenges her to tell her parents, however, confronted with the mental torment of how they'll react, can she face her fear? 14.00pm: Forced to Flee (20 mins) Humanitarian documentary courtesy of Bridge Over Troubled Waters in association with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs: Tens of millions of people around the world have been forced to flee their homes, but unlike refugees who are protected by international law, they remain within the borders of thier own country. They are displaced. One the first black actors to star in films since the 1960's Cameron was there amongst the greats of the genre John Mills, Barbara Windsor, Joan Symms, Carmen Munroe, Rudolph Walker and the list goes on until the current day. A DOUBLE BILLING! In 2009, we screened this film and take pleasure in paying tribute to the late Lionel Ngakane whose film: JEMIMA & JOHNNY is notably the first short film made in the 1960's exploring the Caribbean experience. Beautifully made and set in West London, the film captures the innocence of young children befriending one another against the backdrop of adults addressing racism, when forced to unite through unexpected circumstances. Join lecturer and film critic Jim Pines in 'An Audience with this year's distinguished guest: EARL CAMERON on the celebrity sofa as they talk about his life as a film star and pays tribute to his friend, the late Lionel Ngakane. TEN BOB IN WINTER: This enigmatic short film, shot in black and white, is fresh and experimental but still light-hearted and accessible. In place of dialogue, the director narrates in a Jazz Rap style reminiscent of Langston Hughes, while a sparky Jazz soundtrack is provided by the Joe Harriott Quintet. A CARNIVAL HISTORY - Produced and presented CLARENCE THOMPSON MBE specifically for the film festival is this masterpiece that charts the journey of Carnival from its African roots through tales and images of early black Kings and Queen's, to the Caribbean and Europe. Join Thompson, a 1960's recipient of the Queen's honor's list in 'An Audience with Pepe Francis' founder of the Ebony Steelband on the celebrity sofa. Sunday's CLOSING FEATURE FILM is presented courtesy of Black History Walks: CLAUDIA JONES - A Woman of Our Time: charts Claudia's journey from her Trinidadian home, through the USA to the UK where she produced Britain's first black newspaper and is recognised as one of the early founders of the Notting Hill Carnival.
